New Orleans Morial Convention Center’s Economic Impact Report For 2007

Section: Community

We are pleased to convey the key elements of the New Orleans Morial Convention Center’s economic impact report for 2007. As the report will illustrate, in 2007 the Center generated $103.47 million in local and state taxes, supported almost 18,000 jobs and had an overall economic impact of $1.26 billion, making it one of the single most important assets for Louisiana.

With an operating budget of almost $34 million,
the Center returns almost $37 for every one dollar invested!

Each year, the New Orleans Morial Convention Center’s economic impact builds upon its productive past, making a deep and meaningful mark on local and state economies. Since 1985, the Convention Center has generated $39.12 billion in economic impact and $2.19 billion in state and local taxes.

It is encouraging that 2007 was an improvement over 2006 and there is momentum for 2008 and 2009 to substantially surpass the levels of the last two years—indicating that even greater benefits will be realized in future years.

As always, thank you for your commitment and support of the New Orleans Morial Convention Center’s development and its link to economic progress for Louisiana.

Sincerely.

Melvin Rodrigue Robert L. Johnson
