Six organizations have been awarded grants from the America’s New Orleans Fund to expand services for children with mild to moderate mental health illness, from low-income families in Orleans Parish.

The America’s New Orleans Fund was established after organizations from around the world asked Mayor C. Ray Nagin how they could help New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. The fund is administered through the Greater New Orleans Foundation.

“People around the world have been generous in their giving to New Orleans, and we thank them for their support,” said Mayor Nagin. “Our children suffered severe emotional effects from the storms and their aftermath, and this has created a need for increased counseling and mental health services. This fund will help to ensure that we can provide those services.”

Grant recipients are the New Orleans Children’s Health Project, LSU Health Sciences Center Department of Psychiatry, Children’s Bureau of New Orleans, Family Service of Greater New Orleans, Kingsley House and Choice Foundation – Lafayette Academy Charter School.
