They Say It's Just Smoke

Section: Politics

Samuel D. Davenport

You could see it from as far as Slidell almost to Lutcher a dark cloud of smoke fill the air caused by an instrument failure in the processing unit of a Norco Plant. Starting at 8:15 a.m., the flare was a result of a gas compressor, spokeswoman Tracie Bertaut said. It ignited the flaring mechanism, when the unit shut down. The flaring was expected to continue until this morning, but the instrument has been fixed. Black smoke from the stack is unburned hydrocarbon, but was said to pose no threat to public. Hopefully it won’t cause any harm to any of us but we do live in “Cancer Ally” they do call it that for a reason.
