Saints make NFL history with virtual 'Super Fans'
NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans Saints have scored a first in the National Football League's online world.
The Saints are the first NFL team to allow fans to create online "Super Fan" characters, also known as avatars, on an official NFL Web site.
The Saints debuted www.SaintsSuperFan.com Nov. 2.
Fans can base the characters on themselves by uploading a photograph of themselves and dress them in Saints gear. Characters can be dressed in jerseys of favorite players, such as Drew Brees and Reggie Bush, and made to dance. The avatars' faces can be painted and music tracks can be added.
Fans can post their creations in a public gallery.
“We are excited to provide our fans with a fun new way to express their passion for the Saints. Having experienced the creativity and uniqueness of our fans firsthand for years in the stands and in our community, I look forward to seeing the results on the Web site," said Saints Executive Vice President Rita Benson LeBlanc.
Peter Mayer Interactive, a division of Peter A. Mayer Advertising in New Orleans, designed and developed the site, which is sponsored by Alltel Wireless.
